Nemanja Matic has officially put pen to paper on his contract with Roma. The Giallorossi stepped up their efforts once Henrikh Mkhitaryan rejected their offer and opted to move to Inter instead.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serbian international has agreed to a one-year contract with €3.5M wages. The deal includes an option for a second season, which would be automatically activated if he played in 50 percent of the matches in 2022/2023.

Matic announced his departure from Manchester United on a free in late May, and Roma quickly eyed him due to his connection with José Mourinho. The two worked together at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge. The 33-year-old is the most capped player with the Special One at the helm, trailing only Frank Lampard. The Giallorossi beat Tottenham in the race to sign the veteran, Corriere dello Sport informs. Instead, the Spurs are set to defeat La Lupa for a different midfielder, Brighton’s Yves Bissouma.

After wrapping up the Matic deal, Roma will concentrate on the negotiation with Sassuolo to onboard Davide Frattesi. The talks are progressing nicely thanks to peculiar circumstances.
