Roma Assemble Opening Bid for Artem Dovbyk

It’s now a virtual certainty that Girona talisman Artem Dovbyk will spearhead the new-look Roma attack in the 2024/25 season. According to Fabrizio Romano, Daniele De Rossi’s men have pieced together the opening bid after receiving the Ukraine international’s green light to negotiate with the Spanish club.

Dovbyk is hellbent on joining Roma. He has already turned down several approaches from other sides, including Atletico Madrid’s last-ditch attempt to hijack his move to the Stadio Olimpico over the weekend. Backed by the player’s desire to ply his trade in Serie A, the Giallorossi are ready to table a substantial €35 million offer.

That proposal will include several add-ons, but Roma are confident it will be enough to secure the services of the 27-year-old goal-getter. Talks between the Italian powerhouse and Girona will accelerate during the week, with De Rossi pushing to close the deal as quickly as possible after landing Matias Soule from Juventus.

If everything goes to plan, Dovbyk should sign a five-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico. He’ll replace Romelu Lukaku, who spearheaded De Rossi’s attack last season but returned to his parent club, Chelsea, in June. Dovbyk is a different type of striker.

He’s more technical and mobile than Lukaku, which would likely change De Rossi’s approach next season. Roma often lacked pace and fluidity in the final third last season. With Dovbyk’s arrival and Paulo Dybala already in the house, this new-look frontline could be far more devastating, especially if Soule hits the ground running from the get-go.
