Roma Battling with Manchester United for Marseille Talent

Roma have joined the race to sign Boubacar Kamara from Olympique Marseille. The youngster is in high demand and has drawn interest from Manchester United, Milan, and Juventus. He has only six months left on his deal. The Red Devils are considered the frontrunners to get him for free since they could easily outbid the Serie A clubs on wages.

The Giallorossi are looking for somebody in the role right away, but without breaking the bank. The price tag of the starlet has not decreased despite his contractual situation. The French club wants at least €12M to sell him, Ansa reports. However, they would rather keep him until the end of the season.

Roma could have a leg-up thanks to some previous deals with Olympique Marseille. The Ligue 1 outfit owes them €21M for Pau Lopez and Cengiz Under. They originally joined on loan with obligation to buy. The fee could be detracted from the future sums with no immediate disbursement. It remains to be seen whether Kamara will agree to the destination. He might pass up to pick his next home on his own later on.

Former Roma and Marseille coach Rudi Garcia endorsed the youngster in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport: “He is a good kid and an important player. I made him debut alongside Maxime Lopez and campaigned in favor of his first pro contract. He was originally a defender, but I thought he would fare better in the midfield because of his technique. He has a pretty long ball and is a good decision-maker. In my opinion, he has great potential, as he is also strong in the duels and a quality distributor. He is a perfect deep-lying playmaker.”
