Empoli 1-2 Roma: Giallorossi Return to Winning Ways

After last week’s disappointing losses to Udinese and Ludogorets, Roma finally get back to winning. Jose Mourinho’s side topped Empoli 2-1 at the Castellani to go fifth in the table after six rounds.

Paulo Dybala got the scoring going in the 17th minute with a wonderful strike, giving Guglielmo Vicario no chance. The hosts would get an equalizer just before the interval. Filippo Bandinelli leveled the score, nodding in a Petar Stojanovic cross. The visitors would get the three points though, as Dybala whipped in a perfect ball to Tammy Abraham, the Englishman finding the net.

The win allows Roma to return to the European places in these early stages of the season. Empoli is still winless, though the defeat was just the Tuscans’ second reverse so far.

Roma hosts Finnish champions HJK Helsinki in the Europa League on Thursday, looking to claim their first three points in Europe this campaign. The defending Europa Conference League winners lost inexplicably to Ludogorets last week Thursday in the opener.
