Roma Buy Out Angelino, Set to Bid Adieu to Spinazzola

Roma have decided to keep Angelino, while Leonardo Spinazzola will most likely depart at the end of June as his contract expires. The Giallorossi have picked up their €5M option to retain the Spanish fullback. They’ll settle it in three yearly installments, La Gazzetta dello Sport informed.

The former RB Leipzig and Galatasaray man will earn €2M until 2028. The capital club faced familiar competition, as the player had to sign off on the permanent transfer. Their former director Tiago Pinto, who was recently hired by Bournemouth, tried to persuade him by offering richer wages. The defender rebuffed the courtship. He had already agreed to a long-term pre-contract when he joined in January.

Roma will still have to look for a left-back, as Angelino will be the only option since Spinazzola is on his way out, Goal informs. It’ll be official once his deal runs out in a month. There have been no talks to extend it at this stage, so there shouldn’t be any surprises.

The veteran joined in 2019 in a swap with Juventus and has accumulated 151 appearances, scoring 7 goals and dishing 21 assists. He contributed to winning the Europa Conference League two years ago.

Our Take on Roma, Angelino, and Spinazzola

The fee for the former was so affordable that it would have been weird if they hadn’t pulled the trigger, as he’s been serviceable. The Italian fullback probably asked for too much for their liking, but he can still be a rotational piece in a good team, especially in a 3-5-2.
