Roma Buy Time on Bonucci, Renato Sanches Closer to Exit

Roma is further weighing whether to sign Leonardo Bonucci considering the protest by their fans, while a second addition to their squad could hinge on Renato Sanches. The Giallorossi are seriously considering sending him back to PSG early, Calciomercato informs.

The former Juventus icon has already spoken with José Mourinho, and the agreement isn’t hard to reach. He’d come in with a six-month contract with an option. Director Tiago Pinto is taking a little time to assess the reaction of the fan base. However, the deal is unlikely to collapse due to their needs and because he’s a lot easier to sign than any other defender.

Roma will decide on Bonucci soon, and then they’ll move on the call on Renato Sanches and potential further additions. Severing ties would save them €4M payroll-wise and open a spot in their UEFA list. They had to leave out Rasmus Kristensen and Sardar Azmoun last summer due to their restrictions.

The loanee has removed any Giallorossi reference on his social media pages. However, his agent would have to find another landing spot, for instance in Saudi Arabia or Turkey, to appease PSG. In that event, the capital club would try to sign another defender. Their wish list includes Thilo Kehrer, Trevoh Chalobah, and Arthur Theate.

Our Take on Roma, Bonucci, and Renato Sanches

It’d be tough for them to find an equally cheap alternative to the veteran. Considering the sound benefits and their okay depth, they’d be right to move on from the midfielder.
