Roma Cornerstone Surprisingly Considered Expendable

Leonardo Spinazzola has been one of the top Roma performers this season, but he faces an uncertain future. His contract runs out in 2024, and the club has yet to open talks to prolong it. Should a good offer arrive, the team will be open to discussing his departure, Corriere della Sera reports (via ReteSport).

The wing-back has been healthier than in the past. He has appeared in 36 matches, tallying 2 goals and 6 assists. He touched on the matter in the presser before the first Bayer Leverkusen clash (via Sportitalia).

“I wouldn’t know what to answer now. My future is going home to kiss my son for his birthday. It wouldn’t make sense to think about something else. There’s a month to go filled with key games.”

His agent Davide Lippi took stock in an interview with Tuttomercatoweb a couple of days ago.

“We are happy because Spinazzola went through very difficult moments after winning the European Championship. He’s cheerful again, and he’s doing well. He’s having an excellent campaign. There are teams competing to win something in April or May, but then, if they don’t, the press say it’s a failure. As far as he’s concerned, he resumed being an international-caliber player. There’s a year on his contract, then we’ll see.”

Our Take on Spinazzola and Roma

He had some ups and downs because he was forced to play more than normal due to their injuries, but he has shown flashes of his older self this season, which is encouraging. Realistically, the Giallorossi wouldn’t get much from his sale, and they have more pressing needs. A swap would eventually be more probable. But it’s likely he’ll stay put despite the expiring contract.
