Roma Director Pinto Slams Pariahs That Refused to Leave

Yesterday was a sneaky big day for Roma, which tried to cut down their squad by arranging deals with Turkish sides, but they could not pull off any exit, and Matias Vina, William Bianda, and Ante Coric are still in town.

Director Tiago Pinto attacked the last two, who have been frozen out, before the Trabzonspor game (via SportMediaset).

“I’m not disappointed because I expected it. Some players prioritize their contract rather than their future. We have offloaded many outcasts, but others just prefer to see out their deals. Unfortunately, this is how football works.”

According to the publication, Bianda refused a late offer from Alanyaspor, where he would have earned less. There were inquiries but no tangible bids for Coric. It will be their final season with Roma as their deals end in 2023. In recent years, the midfielder has played on loan at VVV-Venlo, Olimpija Ljubljana, and FC Zurich; instead of the defender at Zulte Waregem and Nancy.

The executive commented on the squad they have put together overall.

“It is large and it will allow the coach to rotate. Nobody should consider himself a full-time starter. The Udinese loss was rough, but we play every three days and we can’t dwell on it. It always takes time to inset newcomers, but things are going well. The group is strong and the coach handles everything like a family.”

Our Take on Roma, Bianda, and Coric

The Giallorossi have been masterful in correcting mistakes of the past, but nobody bats 1000. While unpleasant, the small salaries of the two remaining misfits shouldn’t prevent them from bringing in a free agent defender. Though, they have to choose carefully depending on their physical shape after months without a team.
