Despite some chatter, Rui Patricio remained the unquestioned Roma starter after the summer, but the club is thinking about the future and laid eyes on Michele Di Gregorio. The Portuguese veteran has just a year on his contract.
According to Calciomercato, there have already been some contacts between the parties to discuss his transfer either in January or next June. The Giallorossi got off to a poor start defensively and conceded six times in three matches. The shot-stopper hasn’t been impeccable. Rumors suggested they could bring in a quality alternative to challenge him, but it didn’t happen, as the coaching staff fully trusts him.
Per Quotidiano Sportivo, Patricio might leave naturally at the end of his deal. The first name on the Roma wish list to replace him is Di Gregorio, who’s tied to Monza until 2027. It’ll probably take at least a €10M offer to lure him.
The 26-year-old Inter product reached Serie A only late in his career. He starred for Renate, Avellino, Novara, and Pordenone on loan before being acquired by the Brianzoli. He conceded 49 goals and kept 10 clean sheets in 37 matches last season.
