Roma Eye Atletico Madrid Midfielder, Consider Swap Deal

Roma are trying to bring in another quality contributor in the midfield. They are mostly eyeing foreign targets and added another one to their long list. They have had some talks with Atletico Madrid concerning Hector Herrera, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The condition has not changed, though, as Roma need to part ways with one of their players in the role first. The two sides have discussed inserting Gonzalo Villar in the package, although the negotiation is at its earlier stages. Herrera joined the Colchoneros on a free transfer from Porto in 2019. He has featured in 51 matches during his time in Spanish Capital, scoring once.

The 31-year-old was a linchpin of the Dragoes for six years. He plays a major role for the Mexican national team, for which he has accumulated 85 caps and found the target eight times. Mourinho recently stated that: “We are missing something, but the transfer market of Roma has been extraordinary.” The gaffer also said that he would not have a problem with keeping Amadou Diawara on the roster. The management is attempting to cash in on him to make room for an addition.

Instead, there will not be any surprises on the Lorenzo Pellegrini front. As it happens every summer, he was targeted by multiple teams since he does not have a long-term contract. However, he will stay at Roma and extend it after deadline day. The parties have not reached an agreement yet, but they might do it next week, Corriere dello Sport informs.
