Roma Eyeing De Gea and Raul Jimenez to Bolster Mourinho’s Squad

Roma plan to make two or three select purchases this summer to strengthen the roster with José Mourinho at the helm. They will focus primarily on signing a new goalkeeper and a striker. David De Gea and Raul Jimenez are high on their target list, Corriere della Sera and transfer market expert Alfredo Pedullà report.

The Giallorossi have gotten uneven play from Antonio Mirante and Pau Lopez this season. The latter has improved recently but will miss three months after shoulder surgery. They aim at getting a top specialist, and De Gea could represent an opportunity as he has not started for the Red Devils since late February. However, matching his current €12M yearly salary will be challenging. Isco is in a similar situation at Real Madrid.

It is likely that just one between Edin Dzeko and Borja Mayoral will be retained to then go after an elite striker. Raul Jimenez would be very expensive, but Roma will make an attempt with the assistance of agent Jorge Mendes. Mourinho had indicated him as a possible heir for Harry Kane if he left Tottenham. Jimenez last played in November because of a major head injury. Mauro Icardi, whose future in Paris is uncertain, is among the possible objectives too.

Both sources indicate that Nemanja Matic and Lille’s Renato Sanches have been short-listed to improve the midfield. The Portuguese gaffer will evaluate Alessandro Florenzi, Justin Kluivert, and Cengiz Under following the loan spells at PSG, RB Leipzig, and Leicester. The first two, in particular, have solid chances to stay in the Italian Capital next season.
