Roma and their director Tiago Pinto will take advantage of the trip to Leicester City for the first leg of the European Conference League semi-finals to lay the groundwork ahead of some deals tied to the Premier League. They had success signing Tammy Abraham and Rui Patricio from England last summer, while they misfired with Ainsley Maitland-Niles in January.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Douglas Luiz is one of their top targets for the midfield. He has a high evaluation, €35M, but his contract with Aston Villa runs out in 2023. The Giallorossi already targeted him in the past, and a few other top teams have him on their radar too. He has tallied 4 goals and 8 assists in 105 appearances since joining from Girona in 2019.
The Serie A side also has a Manchester United trio in its sights. Nemanja Matic has been offered to them, but the management is not fully sold on him. They have not stopped chasing after Diogo Dalot, while Eric Bailly, who was close to Milan in January, could be an option for the defense.
Roma will also try to offload some misfits to Premier League clubs. Newcastle inquired about Jordan Veretout in January, who will most likely flee in the summer. Amadou Diawara and Ebrima Darboe attracted some interest from England too. The CEO is seeking solutions for Matias Vina and Eldor Shomurodov too, who have flopped after the club invested €30M in them. They are more likely to leave on loan than on permanent deals.
