Roma File Away Self-Candidature of Napoli Midfielder

Diego Demme has been offered to Roma by his entourage, and they are considering him if Jordan Veretout left. In that event, José Mourinho would want two additions to replenish the midfield. The first one would be Davide Frattesi, for whom the negotiation with Sassuolo is ongoing.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Valencia and some Bundesliga clubs are after the 30-year-old. However, their offers were deemed too low by Napoli. He joined from RB Leipzig for €10M in 2020. While he was a regular under Gennaro Gattuso, Luciano Spalletti has generally preferred Stanislav Lobotka and other options over him. He has appeared in 82 total matches with the Partenopei, tallying 5 goals and 4 assists.

While Veretout has long seemed on the chopping block, he told the fans that he would stay at the start of the pre-season camp, Tuttomercatoweb reports. On top of Demme, free agent Florian Grillitsch is a target for Roma too. He failed to strike a deal with Fiorentina, as director Daniele Pradè confirmed.

Instead, Sergio Olivera is unlikely to come back. The Giallorossi did not activate their €13M to buy him out from Porto in June. He is now nearing a transfer to Galatasaray for just €3M, Goal relays.

Our Take on Demme Being Linked Roma

The Napoli midfielder provides a ton of balance and is a low-hanging fruit as the Azzurri want to offload him. Still, there are definitely more attractive options out there, including keeping Veretout, signing Grillitsch, or trying to hijack Oliveira’s transfer, if it is not too late.
