Roma Get Their New Left-Back, Set to Renew Efforts to Sign Xhaka

Roma have found their new left-back as they have come to terms to acquire Matias Vina from Palmeiras. Director Tiago Pinto confirmed his arrival while talking to some fans today. The Giallorossi will pay €11M plus €2.5M add-ons, Sportitalia reports.

Vina will fill in for the injured Leonardo Spinazzola, who is nursing an Achilles tendon tear. He has accumulated 69 appearances during his time with Palmeiras, tallying 5 goals and 10 assists. He has 16 caps with Uruguay. Roma inquired about few options and ultimately opted for a young one.

The Giallorossi will soon make the final push to sign Granit Xhaka too. He has long been their top choice for the midfield, but they had to scramble to find a replacement for Spinazzola first. However, they will have to improve their previous offer, Corriere dello Sport indicates.

Arsenal want €20M, while Roma stopped at €15M plus €2.5M bonuses. The Italian side would like to seal the deal before July 26th, when they will move to Portugal for the second phase of the pre-season preparation. “Xhaka? We will see; we can buy only one player at a time,” Pinto replied today.

The Swiss captain has already agreed to a four-year contract with Roma and will earn €2.5M per season. The recent acquisition of Albert Sambi Lokonga should facilitate his exit. The deal is highly likely to go through, Gianluca Di Marzio informed. The Giallorossi will receive new funds from the departures of Justin Kluivert and Robin Olsen. The winger will join Nice, while the goalkeeper is close to Lille, Il Romanista informs.
