Legendary Roma captain Francesco Totti broke his silence on the notorious dismissal of another Giallorossi icon, Daniele De Rossi. During an interview with Calciomercato, the 48-year-old addressed numerous hot topics regarding his beloved club.
And if there’s anyone competent to talk about Roma and De Rossi, it’s Totti. L’Imperatore shared the dressing room with the sacked Giallorossi manager during their illustrious playing careers at the Stadio Olimpico.
“No one knows Daniele better than me. He is sorry for how it went, for the times and the ways. These things happen in football and you can start again from negative things,” Totti said.
De Rossi’s successor, Ivan Juric, is seemingly on course to turn the club’s fortunes around. Roma have picked up seven of the nine available Serie A points under his tutelage. Academy graduate Niccolo Pisilli fired Juric’s side to a crucial 2-1 home win against Venezia a fortnight ago with his first-ever senior goal for the club.
Many consider the Roma homegrown starlet the next big thing in Italian football. Naturally, Totti was asked to deliver his verdict on the youngster’s rise to stardom.
“Pisilli? We are talking about a great, promising young player, and I am happy that Roma have found a great talent. A great player and a polite boy with his feet on the ground,” he stated.
Totti also discussed the club’s decision to loan Edoardo Bove out to Fiorentina in the summer.
“Bove could have done well at Roma, I’m sorry he was sold, even if he is on loan with the right to buy. I hope that one day he can return to Rome, also because he is a young man from the academy.“
