Roma in Advanced Discussions with Zalewki on Extension

Nicola Zalewski has had a tremendous 2022, and Roma will soon reward him with a new contract. The talks are ongoing and should be completed by the end of the year. His current deal lasts until 2025. His wages will most likely triple.

As per Quotidiano Nazionale, the expiration date will be pushed to 2027 once the parties finalize the agreement. The salary will grow from €500k to €1.5M per year. Several teams would be keen on signing the starlet if he were ever made available, starting with all the other Serie A powerhouses. The Giallorossi swiftly repelled inquiries from PSG and Tottenham in the summer, Calciomercato reports.

Zalewski has collected 36 appearances with Roma so far, dishing 3 assists. He broke out last season as a wing-back, filling in for Leonardo Spinazzola because newcomer Matias Vina wasn’t up to snuff. He helped replace Rick Karsdorp in recent matches, adapting to the other flank.

The Pole, who will be a regular in the World Cup, made the final cut in the 2022 edition of the Golden Boy award organized TuttoSport. He currently trails just Eduardo Camavinga by a narrow margin in the fan vote.

Our Take on Roma and Zalewski

He was arguably underutilized until Karsdorp went down with an injury. More so because Leonardo Spinazzola hasn’t been his best self so far. José Mourinho is specializing him in this peculiar role. Perhaps, he should consider him using as an attacker, his natural position, while Paulo Dybala recovers.
