Roma in Advanced Talks to Complete Two More Departures

On top of shipping Jordan Veretout to Olympique Marseille, Roma are on the verge of finalizing two further departures. Following a host of acquisitions, the Giallorossi are focusing on trimming the roster to hand José Mourinho a more manageable squad and especially lower the payroll.

As per Goal, Justin Kluivert is closing in on a move to Fulham. The winger returned to Italy following the loan spells at RB Leipzig and Nice. He scored 6 times in 31 appearances last season. The Ligue 1 side would have been forced to buy him out if they qualified for the Champions League. They didn’t pick up their option afterward.

Despite the Special One praising the attacker in the past, the club never had any intention of keeping Kluivert on the roster. He should transfer to the Cottagers for a €10M. Roma wish to use the same formula, or loans with an obligation to buy, for other departures too, but it won’t always be possible.

The next one to leave will be Gonzalo Villar. Sampdoria have convinced the Giallorossi to let him go on a temporary spell with an €8M clause, Tuttomercatoweb informs. Instead, the capital side is offering more resistance for Eldor Shomurodov, who’s in Bologna and Torino’s crosshairs, since he was acquired last summer.

Our Take on the Next Departures from Roma

Tiago Pinto will have his work cut out for him in August as there’s a lot of fodder and no real gems on the fringes of the squad. The only real major doubt is how strongly they will withstand the offers for Nicolò Zaniolo.
