Roma and Artem Dovbyk are seemingly on the same page, as the Ukraine international can’t wait to ink a contract at the Stadio Olimpico. According to Fabrizio Romano, talks between the Giallorossi and Girona will commence early next week after the striker agreed on personal terms with the Italian club.
Dovbyk is reportedly ready to pen a five-year contract at Roma. But Daniele De Rossi’s side must first find common ground with Girona. They may need to splash out up to €30 million to sign the 27-year-old after failing to close the deal for Youssef En-Nesyri, who’s close to joining former Roma manager Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.
Given Dovbyk’s performances in 2023/24, his price tag sounds like a daylight robbery. But there’s always a fear that he could be a one-season wonder. The Ukrainian marksman took La Liga by storm in his first year in Spain’s top flight, racking up 24 goals and eight assists across 34 league appearances.
On that basis, it’s no surprise Roma are keen to onboard him this summer. De Rossi must address his side’s shortcomings in the front third after Romelu Lukaku and Sardar Azmoun returned to their parent clubs at the end of last season. In addition to Dovbyk, he’s on the verge of landing Juventus prodigy Matias Soule.
To show his commitment to Roma, Dovbyk turned down an approach from Atletico Madrid in recent hours. De Rossi’s charges must present a satisfying offer to Girona. Showdown talks could take place in the coming days.
