Roma Inching Closer to Signing Sassuolo Star Davide Frattesi

Davide Frattesi cannot wait to wear the Roma jersey again as Sassuolo line up a bid for Venezia’s Gianluca Busio to fill the vacancy. According to Calciomercato, the Neroverdi have identified the 20-year-old American as an ideal long-term replacement for their outgoing star.

Talks between Roma and Sassuolo over Frattesi’s return to the Stadio Olimpico are well underway. The 22-year-old has given his blessing to the Giallorossi to take him back to the capital, where he learned his trait in a youth set-up. But the Emilia-Romagna side continue to play hardball on his sale.

Sassuolo have slapped a €32m price tag on Frattesi’s head. And they seem ready to stick to their guns despite the player’s will to return to Roma. Though there’s still a gap between Sassuolo’s valuation of their sought-after midfielder and Roma’s bid, negotiations are moving forward.

Frattesi emerged as Inter’s top midfield target early in the summer. However, after acquiring the signature of Kristjan Asllani from Empoli, their interest in the Italy international has taken a back seat. That has allowed Roma to swoop in and bring the prodigal son back.

Adding to this sentiment, Sassuolo are already in the market to replace their departing ace. Busio, who enjoyed an impressive maiden Serie A season at Venezia last season, is Alessio Dionisi’s number one goal.

The Lagunari paid Sporting Kansas City $6.5m upfront plus add-ons to sign the USMNT star in 2021. Venezia’s relegation to Serie B means they don’t have the means to keep their standout performers at the club beyond the summer.

Busio may headline the exodus as Sassuolo plot a summer bid for the Venezia deep-lying midfielder. The American’s potential switch to the Mapei Stadium could accelerate Frattesi’s move to Roma.

The sole fact the Neroverdi are after Busio suggests the Giallorossi are close to reuniting with their youth academy graduate.
