Roma Keen on Lecce Fullback to Succeed Spinazzola

Roma have yet to decide whether to keep Leonardo Spinazzola, whose contract is expiring, and have earmarked Antonino Gallo as a potential replacement. The fullback had a stellar performance against them in the most recent round.

Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giallorossi will go young with most of their signings. The 24-year-old cut his teeth in the lower leagues for a few seasons before arriving in Serie A with the Salentini. He has dished 4 assists in 59 appearances in the Italian top flight. He grew up in Palermo’s youth academy and played for Virtus Francavilla on loan before transferring to Puglia on a free in 2019.

Lecce already believe that Gallo will indeed move to the Italian capital next summer, while Roma are being more cautious. He’s married to the daughter of Guillermo Giacomazzi, an icon of his present club who’s now Daniele De Rossi’s lead assistant.

The Giallorossi are expected to retain Angelino, who’s been okay since joining them from Galatasaray. They have a €5M option, and not an obligation, to buy him. It’d be a surprise if it didn’t get picked up, especially should they qualify for the Champions League.

Our Take on Roma and Gallo

He’s solid and energetic but might already be close to his full potential. The bonus is that he would be pretty cheap. On the other hand, should they move on from Spinazzola, they might want a more defensive-minded specialist to pair up with Angelino, as they occasionally have trouble containing opponents on that wing.
