Roma Lining Up Bid to Sign Free-Scoring La Liga Forward

Serie A giants Roma have added Villarreal striker Alexander Sorloth to their list of targets amid Daniele De Rossi’s quest to replace Romelu Lukaku. According to recent reports in Italy, the Stadio Olimpico outfit could soon make a concrete approach to sign the Norway international.

Roma failed to turn Lukaku’s loan move from Chelsea permanent at the end of last season. With Tammy Abraham also on the verge of leaving the club, De Rossi is on the lookout for a new center-forward to join forces with Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini up front.

After being linked with several names in Serie A and abroad, Sorloth has emerged as the Giallorossi’s latest idea to lead the line next season. It’s barely surprising that Roma are keen to sign the 28-year-old, considering he had a phenomenal season in La Liga in 2023/24.

Sorloth bagged 23 goals in the Spanish top flight last term, with only Girona talisman Artem Dovbyk doing better than the Norwegian star. Villarreal had initially slapped a significant €38 million price tag on the second-best La Liga goalscorer of 2023/24, but they’re willing to lower their claims.

It’s understood Roma would need to pay nearly €30m to get the deal over the line. However, they’re reportedly unwilling to go beyond €20m to make the move happen. That implies that it may take time before the clubs find common ground.

If Roma can offload Abraham to Juventus, it would probably increase the likelihood of Sorloth’s arrival.
