Roma Linked to Argentinian Veteran to Add to the Midfield

Roma plan to sign a distributor in the midfield once they will have offloaded Amadou Diawara. The 24-year-old has received plenty of requests. It is unlikely that the Giallorossi will get much from his departure, though. They are mostly seeking cheap options to round out the squad.

According to Corriere dello Sport, CEO Tiago Pinto met with agent Marcelo Simonian yesterday. Ever Banega is among his clients, and he is eyeing a return to Europe. He transferred from Sevilla to Shabab in September 2020. He had a cup of coffee with Inter between La Liga spells.

Banega would give Roma a short-term solution in the midfield before going after younger options next summer. They already signed Sergio Oliveira, but José Mourinho wants a pure deep-lying playmaker too. The Giallorossi have been linked also to Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka and Rennes’ Baptiste Santamaria.

Roma need to find a new team for Diawara before making an addition to the midfield. Torino, Sampdoria, and Cagliari are among the sides that displayed interest. He is heading back to the Italian Capital as Guinea has been eliminated from AFCON. He has been reluctant to transfer in the past. The suitors will have to win him over and insert an option to buy in the prospective loan move.

In the meantime, the Giallorossi will get a minor cash infusion from the sale of a different youngster. Sassuolo will acquire Riccardo Ciervo, who spent the first half of the season at Sampdoria, for €2M and then send him to Reggina, Alfredo Pedullà reports.
