Roma Linked to Barcelona Defender and Further Options

Roma intend to add a left-footed defender to their rearguard. The plan is to continue relying on a three-man line, and they currently have just four options. Once they will have trimmed the roster through some departures, the front office will open talks to onboard one of the candidates.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Giallorossi are dueling with Tottenham to capture Clement Lenglet. Barcelona are open to letting him go even though he is under contract until 2026. He was signed for €38M in 2018 and has been unconvincing in Catalunya.

The center-back has also been linked to Juventus in recent weeks. He might be the most attainable target of the bunch as he could join on an initial loan, Corriere dello Sport informs. The other defenders on the Roma radar are Marcos Senesi and Evan Ndicka. However, they disagree with the price tags set by their respective clubs. Feyenoord and Eintracht Frankfurt ask for €20M, but both have just one more year on their contracts.

The Giallorossi liked Nayef Aguerd, but he will transfer from Rennes to West Ham for €35M. Barring high offers, the Giallorossi will keep both Roger Ibanez and Marash Kumbulla and augment their backline rather than substitute its current members, ReteSport informs.

Our Take on Roma Searching for a Defender

They are clearly thin in the back, and the Brazilian has cost them a few points with his blunder. It would not be surprising if they cut bait on him if somebody offered good enough money to bankroll a pair of deals. They need a contributor that can better man the left-hand side. Senesi and Ndicka are intriguing, Lenglet not so much. Bologna’s Arthur Theate might possess the right combination of upside and reasonable cost.
