Roma Linked to RB Salzburg and Atalanta Center-Backs

Roma are in the hunt for a new center-back after selling Roger Ibanez to Al-Ahli and have Oumar Solet and Merih Demiral in their early shortlist to address the hole. The Turk has other offers, but he wishes to join a top team this summer, Fabrizio Romano informs.

West Ham and Nottingham Forest set sights on him, but he prefers waiting to transfer to either the Giallorossi or Inter, which also need a new piece in the back. La Dea wants an outright sale, which might be hard to concoct with their fellow Serie A sides.

Per Relevo (via OneFootball), on top of inquiring about Demiral, Roma gathered intel on Solet. They wish to onboard him on an initial loan, so it could be challenging to come to terms with RB Salzburg. Torino were close to signing him in the past.

The 23-year-old moved to Austria from Olympique Lyonnais in 2020 for €4.5M. He has accumulated 81 appearances since, scoring 2 goals and providing 5 assists. His contract expires in 2025.

Our Take on Roma, Demiral, and Solet

They’ll have to find somebody, but not necessarily a starting-caliber player considering they had already shored up the position beforehand. In reality, they need two new options to have a complete rearguard, but that’s unlikely. They should sign a player that could handle the central position to relieve Chris Smalling occasionally.
