Roma List Three More French Players to Bolster Squad

After signing Enzo Le Fée, Roma have three other Frenchmen on their radar to complete their roster. A new starting-caliber right-back is their most glaring hole. Lorenz Assignon is the frontrunner for the job. The negotiation with Rennes has been going on for a while, Corriere dello Sport informs.

The Giallorossi proposed a loan with an option to buy, but the counterparty refused. They want a more permanent formula after sending him temporarily to Brighton last January. The capital club had also tracked Marc Pubill, who’s no longer joining Atalanta due to issues with his medicals.

Roma are also eyeing Sevilla’s Loic Badé and Leicester City’s Boubakary Soumaré. The former’s price tag is around €20M. However, their prospective arrivals hinge on some departures. Daniele De Rossi recently complained that their 31-man squad was too large and not easy to work with.

The Giallorossi will try to offload one between Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla, but it’s an arduous task. Instead, Edoardo Bove is the only midfielder on the market since the others have sizeable roles. Fiorentina have shown the most interest, but they just acquired Amir Richardson from Reims for €9M.

Our Take on Roma

It’d be great for them if they could bring in a younger defender to replace the Englishman, who’s untrustworthy injury-wise, but the real priority is a right-back. They can call it a day if they find a stud, but it appears that they don’t have much more to spend after their several additions.
