Roma Attempting to Profit from Calafiori Transferring

Riccardo Calafiori is one step away from joining Arsenal, but the deal will be more complicated than usual due to a conspicuous re-sale clause for Basel, and Roma are trying to get a piece of the pie as well, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

Bologna owe 50 percent of the fee, in excess of what they spent to sign him, to the Swiss team. It amounts to €22,5M. The executives are in touch to discuss how to structure the payment. In the meantime, the Gunners are scheduling the medicals.

Roma are monitoring the Calafiori deal, as Basel acquired him from them for €2.5M plus 40 percent of a future sale, which was settled last summer. However, the Giallorossi believe to be also owed a portion of what Arsenal will disburse since it’s further profit from the same deal.

The capital club aims to cash in €8M. Basel obviously disagrees with such a request. They consider the two transfers separate. The matter might spill over to the courtrooms and thus take a long time to be sorted out.

The dispute is entirely between them and doesn’t concern Bologna and Arsenal, nor does it jeopardize the Calafiori move. The defender is a Giallorossi product and starred 18 times with their first team. José Mourinho signed off on his permanent departure after he struggled to garner regular playing time under him and in a six-month loan spell at Genoa, also because of multiple muscular injuries.
