As Roma and Sevilla held each other to a stalemate in their pre-season weekend friendly in Portugal, the top management of both clubs reportedly sat down to discuss a potential move for Spanish midfielder Gonzalo Villar.
According to reports, the former Elche midfielder is not in Jose Mourinho’s 2021/22 season plan and is likely to be offloaded before the start of the new Serie A season.
The central midfielder has a market value in the range of €15M – a price tag Roma are open to gaining, in order to make way for other transfer targets. The 23-year-old is also being eyed upon by Atletico Madrid.
He was favored by former manager Paulo Fonseca, under who he found regular playing time, ever since his move to the capital club in January 2020. The Spaniard developed into a key member for the club last season, as part of an elaborate midfield rotation plan.
