Roma, Mourinho Approves Scouting Benfica Prodigy for Summer Transfer

Roma are perhaps not satisfied with in-form Tammy Abraham at the moment, so much so that links have surfaced between the capital club and a certain 20-year-old Portuguese prodigy in the ranks of Benfica. While the frontline is the least of Jose Mourinho worries, with the midfield and defence needing some bolstering, reports from Portugal indicate otherwise.

According to Portuguese outlet Record (via TUTTOmercatoweb), the Giallorossi consider Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos to be a fit investment to strengthen their attack and act as Abraham’s understudy at the Stadio Olimpco. The Benfica youth product only recently made his senior debut but has seen 2021/22 become his breakthrough season, scoring 8 goals in 42 appearances for the Portuguese giants so far.

He is contracted with Benfica until the summer of 2026 and with a transfermarkt value of €10m, he would arrive at a minimal cost into Roma’s ranks.

Sporting director Tiago Pinto is said to maintain an excellent relationship with the Portuguese giants, where he functioned as a director for three years prior arriving in Italy’s capital.

Moreover, the youngster has the approval of coach Mourinho for a potential bid in the summer.

The right-footed forward is known for his versatility upfront, capable of donning various roles – from a center-forward and a support striker to deep behind as a playmaker and also as a winger. He has already played as a back-up striker to highly sought after forward Darwin Nunez and a move to Roma may just be the turning point in the 20-year old’s blossoming career.
