Roma Named Price for Milan-Linked Jordan Veretout

Roma have reportedly named a €10m price tag on star midfielder Jordan Veretout amid speculation linking the Frenchman with a move to Milan. According to Calciomercato, the Giallorossi are ready to let the 29-year-old go in the summer, with the newly-crowned Serie A champions monitoring the situation.

Veretout has gone from strength to strength since swapping Fiorentina for the Stadio Olimpico in 2019. But though he was one of the best-performing players at Roma for a year and a half, he has seen his influence dwindle on the back of Jose Mourinho’s appointment.

At one point during the 2021/22 season, Veretout even fell out of favour with Mourinho, losing his place in the starting line-up to Bryan Cristante. Despite being in and out of the starting XI, he still racked up four goals and eight assists in Serie A while helping Roma win their maiden European trophy.

However, Veretout’s mixed spell in the capital could be coming to a close as Roma consider cashing in on his departure. Mourinho plans to strengthen his squad in the summer following a historic Europa Conference League triumph, and the Frenchman could make room for the new additions.

Our take on Veretout’s potential destination

In addition to Milan, who are on the lookout for a new midfielder in the wake of Franck Kessie’s move to Barcelona, Newcastle United are also interested in acquiring Veretout’s signature.

The creative midfielder endured an underwhelming two-year stint in England with Aston Villa between 2015 and 2017. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether he’d want to switch to the Premier League. Based on his unpleasant memories, it seems unlikely.

A move to Milan looks far more likely, even though the Rossoneri have other targets on their radar. Napoli were also in the mix, yet Veretout’s agent has ruled out that prospect
