Roma Near Breakthrough in Their Chase of Renato Sanches

Roma have gotten closer to landing Renato Sanches, who has been their top target for the midfield in the last few weeks. The midfielder waffled at first because he preferred joining a team that played in the Champions League. But none of those made a move for him this summer, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.

The Giallorossi and PSG are in advanced talks. The formula would be a loan with a €1/2M initial fee and a €13M option to buy. The Ligue 1 powerhouse will contribute to paying his €6M wages.

Renato Sanches was talked into joining Roma by goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos. The two were together at Lille. The assistant reassured him about the project and the Giallorossi’s ambitions. His club has yet to give its final okay, though, Gianluca Di Marzio reports. New contacts will take place next week.

The Portuguese could have moved to Serie A last year, but PSG pipped Milan at the post. He transferred in a €15M. His first season in the French capital didn’t go too well also because of a few muscular injuries.

Our Take on Renato Sanches to Roma

The concerns about his fitness have been there his entire career, but he’s potentially a bargain at those sums and surely for the next campaign. He’ll add more much-needed dynamism and muscles, and he might elevate his game under the tutelage of José Mourinho.
