Mats Hummels is seemingly growing tired of his fringe status at Roma since joining the club as a free agent in early September. The veteran defender took to Instagram, posting a picture with a sarcastic capture beneath.
“Rome so far. Match pictures will soon be included, I think,” the attached note reads. It’s not like Hummels to go public with his emotions. Throughout his illustrious playing career, the 35-year-old has rarely appeared in the media, let alone gave the impression of a controversial figure.
However, he seems impatient to make his first appearance for Roma. The Giallorossi signed Hummels on a short-term contract on September 4 after the ex-Germany international spent the whole summer as a free agent.
Despite his household stature in European football, the ex-Bayern Munich star couldn’t find a new club after running down his contract at Borussia Dortmund. Roma came to his aid last month. But he has yet to feature for Ivan Juric’s side in 2024/25.
Flu symptoms reportedly denied Hummels his Roma debut last weekend, as he had to skip Sunday’s trip to Monza. With a two-week hiatus for October’s international break forcing club football to take a break, he has enough time to return to full fitness.
Roma will need all hands on deck when Serie A returns to action later this month as they take on defending champions Inter on October 20. That could be Hummels’ chance to shine in the new shirt, with the Giallorossi looking to halt a three-game losing run against Simone Inzaghi’s team.
