Roma Newcomer Heaps Praise on Contribution of the Fans

Diego Llorente could get his first start since joining Roma Thursday, as Roger Ibanez is suspended for the first leg of the Europe League clash against Real Sociedad. The Spaniard is very familiar with the opponents, having played there from 2017 to 2020.

The defender spoke to Radio Marca (via Voce Giallorossa).

“The negative moments are always short-lived in football, as you have the chance to turn things around a few days later. You have to stay ready. We’ll try to exploit our home field advantage to obtain a favorable result ahead of the second match. Anything can happen. Whoever will fare better as a team, in the individual duels, and in the small details will prevail.”

Llorente hailed the great atmosphere created by the Roma faithful at the Stadio Olimpico.

“It pleasantly surprised me. A lot of people come to the arena on game-day despite the running track obstructing their view. It’s incredible how they push us in each game.”

The Giallorossi have been particularly proficient on set pieces.

“It’s a strong point for us, and we try to take advantage of it properly. It’s the product of a series of factors we constantly work on.”

Llorente moved to Roma on a €500k loan from Leeds United late in the January window. The capital side has an €18M option to buy to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season. He has appeared just once so far, subbing in late in the Empoli game.
