Roma Not Getting Much from Their Summer Purchases

Despite a meager budget, Roma got busy in the transfer market last summer, but they don’t have much to show for it so far. Romelu Lukaku has been the only thoroughly convincing addition, while all the others run into some issues, La Gazzetta dello Sport argues (via OneFootball).

The club had a lot of hope in Renato Sanches, but he has spent more time on the shelf than on the pitch. Houssem Aoaur has played a lot thanks to their several absences. However, he hasn’t been totally convincing yet. José Mourinho benched him for the more physical Edoardo Bove against Inter. He has scored twice in 11 appearances so far.

Evan N’Dicka has also featured constantly due to their injury woes, but he has been shaky at best. Rasmus Kristensen was expected to take over the right flank. He had a pair of strong showings but has been lackluster multiple times. He hasn’t been able to completely edge out Rick Karsdorp and Zeki Celik and was particularly poor versus Inter.

Sardar Azmoun has played very little because of the competition and precarious conditioning.

Our Take on Roma and Their Summer Moves

Most of the newcomers haven’t been great, but it’d be unfair to expect splendid results since they spent almost zilch. Given the situation, it was tough to do much better.
