Roma Offered Arsenal Ace, Mourinho Prefers Manchester United Wingback

In a shocking revelation, it has been revealed by Italian outlet Il Corriere dello Sport that Roma have been offered a certain Arsenal outcast, who is yet to establish himself under Mikel Arteta this season.

The reports from Italy put ex-Southampton defender Calum Chambers in the spotlight for a potential departure from the Emirates Stadium to the Stadio Olimpico. He is out of favor this season at Arsenal due to the club finding a surprisingly concrete defensive form of late, pushing the 26-year-old to the bench, mainly due to the emergence of Japanese full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Chambers has appeared in just two Premier League games this season, last appearing in August in the 5-0 defeat at Manchester City.

As he enters the final year of his Arsenal contract, the Gunners could look to offload him in a cut-price transfer deal in the January window. The report mentions of coach Jose Mourinho’s admiration for Chambers’ ability to don different roles at the back.

However, the Englishman’s ability does not fully convince Mourinho and Roma to take the next step, with the manager preferring the presence of his Portuguese counterpart Diogo Dalot from Manchester United, where the fullback faces a similar out-of-game-time scenario as Chambers.

In a bid to throw some competition at Dutch right-back Rick Karsdorp, Roma have also shortlisted few other names in Sampdoria ace Bartosz Bereszynski, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Henrichs and Lille wingback Zeki Celik.
