Roma Offered Manchester United Reserve to Fill Hole at Left-Back

Roma are seeking a left-back that could replace Leonardo Spinazzola adequately until he returns from his Achilles tear. They have been linked to a number of options, and the top one is Ramy Bensebaini. However, Borussia Moenchengladbach have asked for €30M for their defender, and the Giallorossi are not looking to spend that much. An intermediary recently proposed Alex Telles, Calciomercato.com reports.

The 28-year-old Brazilian has had limited success during his time at Manchester United. After few strong seasons at Porto, the Red Devils signed him for €16M. However, due to the return to prominence of Luke Shaw, he has seen limited action. He started just 8 Premier League matches, featuring more in the various cups.

Telles is already familiar with Serie A as he spent a season on loan at Inter in 2015/2016. He made 21 appearances, but the Nerazzurri decided against activating their option to buy. Roma would be looking to add him with the same formula, and it is unsure yet whether Manchester United would agree on that.

After a year in the Peninsula, he moved to Porto for €7M, where he blossomed. Thanks to penalty kick duties, he scored 26 goals in 195 matches with the Dragoes, providing 57 assists. He would not count as a non-EU player because he has an Italian passport.

Roma currently have only the prospect Riccardo Calafiori for the role, as they froze out Davide Santon. They were reportedly looking at younger options than Telles. The Brazilian fullback is also Inter radar should one between Ivan Perisic and Federico Dimarco leave, the site adds.
