Free agent Andrea Belotti could soon complete his mouth-watering move to last season’s Europa Conference League winners Roma. As per Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian striker has given his consent for a switch to the Stadio Olimpico amid talks linking him with a move to Ligue 1.
Monaco and Nice have emerged as potential landing spots for the 28-year-old. French sides have approached Belotti’s representatives to plead their cases after the player severed ties with Torino. However, Roma are ready to offer the ex-Palermo man a lifeline in Serie A.
Belotti’s name features Jose Mourinho’s wishlist close to the top. While working on the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, the Giallorossi are keeping their eyes peeled for value.
Who better than one of the most prolific strikers in recent Serie A history to gain Mourinho’s attention? On top of that, Belotti is available on a free transfer. That sound like an opportunity hard to pass on.
Aware he first needs to offload some deadwood to make room for Belotti’s arrival, Mourinho has instructed Tiago Pinto to sort out the outgoings. Underperforming Eldor Shomurodov has already found himself on the chopping block.
Bologna are eager to take the former Genoa forward to Renato Dall’Ara, with negotiations between the sides already well underway. As soon as Roma agree on a deal with the Rossoblu, Mourinho will launch a decisive assault on Belotti.
With the player’s ‘yes’ already in the bag, the Giallorossi are aware the transfer is only a matter of formality. If everything goes as planned, Roma will have Belotti to link up with the likes of Tammy Abraham and Paulo Dybala in the frontline.
Do you still doubt Mourinho’s ability to turn struggling sides into forces to be reckoned with?
