Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe are in talks with Roma to try signing Nicolò Zaniolo. The transfer market in Turkey is open for a couple more days. Their offers haven’t met the Giallorossi’s request so far, but the negotiations will continue.
The attacker has been frozen out after asking to leave and refusing a late move to Bournemouth. The club didn’t change their mind after his letter. He produced a medical certificate with a 30-day prognosis for psychophysical stress. He has been inserted in the UEFA list, but only for technical reasons, as he’s no longer part of the project, Sky relays.
Per Gianluca Di Marzio, Galatasaray tendered €22M including add-ons for Zaniolo, and they have an agreement in principle on personal terms. Fenerbahçe aren’t out of race, though. Roma had accepted €30M from the Cherries on deadline day. They favor a permanent move.
The attacker has talked with former Serie A stars currently at the Cimbom, such as Dries Mertens, Mauro Icardi, and Lucas Torreira, who advised him to join. If he did, his contract would have a future release clause in the ballpark of €30/35M. Wages aren’t a big sticking point because he wants to play. According to Alfredo Pedullà, their Turkish rivals could bid up to €25M and would agree to a predetermined future way out as well.
Our Take on Zaniolo and Roma
The transfer to the Super Lig would be an unexpected and welcomed resolution to a messy situation that could only do harm if it lasted till the end of the season. On the other hand, the Giallorossi need to cash in properly. The valuation is already below what it would normally be. That’ll be challenging considering the prospective destinations.
