Roma Want Mourinho’s First Manchester United Signing on Loan

The addition of Paulo Dybala has injected a new sense of direction within the Giallorossi ranks, but the transfer window is far from over for Roma, as José Mourinho is eyeing a reunion with Eric Bailly. The Portuguese is reportedly interested in his former player to bolster the defense.

The latest reports from Italy and England indicate the Special One’s intention of bringing Ivorian defender Eric Bailly to the Stadio Olimpico. The versatile 28-year-old was brought to Manchester United from Villarreal by the gaffer during his reign in 2016 but soon saw demand for his presence in the starting eleven decrease as the years passed by.

Bailly is not in Erik Ten Hag’s plans for the upcoming Premier League season and, as per Il Messaggero (via VoceGiallorossa.it), Roma director Tiago Pinto is aiming to lure him on loan. The Red Devils are keen on offloading the Ivorian, but it is uncertain whether the Giallorossi will match is €15M asking price.

The former Villarreal man was Mourinho’s first signing at Manchester United and could very well be Roma’s second from the English giants after the signing of Nemanja Matic.

Our Take on Bailly at Roma

Bailly is a strong and versatile defender capable of donning various roles, including as a right-back. The Giallorossi will certainly benefit from his potential to add more depth to the squad, especially since a number of defenders, including Roger Ibanez are being linked to the exit door.
