Roma Player Ratings vs Lazio: Ibanez Sees Red in Olimpico Battle

Roma struggled to keep their cool as Roger Ibanez saw red at the Stadio Olimpico in their 1-0 loss to Lazio. The Biancocelesti would pick up a 1-0 win thanks to a Mattia Zaccagni goal in the second half as they now move five points ahead of their city rivals.

Ill-discipline is the current theme for the Giallorossi, filtering down from the suspended head coach Jose Mourinho. Marash Kumbulla was sent off last week against Sassuolo and that trend continued once more here in the Derby della Capitale as Roger Ibanez was dismissed after just 30 minutes of action. The Roma staff also failed to keep their cool and saw two members down on the touchline dismissed in the opening half.

The hosts pushed after the break and looked to take advantage of their extra man, searching for an opener. Rui Patricio would make a fine number of save but couldn’t stop Zaccagni who scored with a composed finish. So here are our Roma player ratings as they suffered defeat in the derby match.

Roma: (3-4-2-1)

Rui Patricio – 7.5

Made a number of excellent saves throughout the match and kept his side in the game. Could do nothing about the fine finish by Zaccagni.

Gianluca Mancini – 5

Struggled a little here and was threatened by Zaccagni and Elseid Hysaj overlapping down the flank. Picked up a booking and failed to win his duels.

Chris Smalling – 6

Was the better of yet another weak defense by Roma who seem to be losing their heads. However, Chris Smalling wasn’t to blame and did okay here. Was very accurate in possession.

Roger Ibanez – 3

Booked in the opening phases for a late challenge on Felipe Anderson and would receive his second yellow after just half an hour of action for a careless challenge on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Left his side in trouble for the remainder of the Derby della Capitale.

Nicola Zalewski – 5.5

Had a difficult start to the match with Lazio focusing their attacks down his side of the pitch. Showed some bright sparks as the youngster continues to develop but it was a tough evening.

Bryan Cristante – 5

Looked a little sloppy in the first quarter of the match. Dropped deep in front of the defense and improved but was sent off late on as the emotions boiled over once more.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 5

Had a decent effort from range in what was Roma’s only real chance in the opening stages but his effort flew over the bar and that was his only real involvement in the match.

Leonardo Spinazzola – 6

Had a fairly forgettable performance bar from a lofted effort that forced Ivan Provedel into making a save in the second half.

Lorenzo Pellegrini – 6.5

Put in a fairly solid display here and managed to create a few chances in what was one of the better performances for the Giallorossi. Subbed off late on for Ola Solbakken.

Paulo Dybala – 5

Failed to really get on the ball and couldn’t influence the match going forward. Taken off at half time as ten-man Roma looked to shore up the defense.

Andrea Belotti – 5

Struggled to help win the ball up top for Roma and found it difficult up against the Lazio defense in the air. Rarely involved in a lacklustre offensive display by the visitors.

Substitutions

Diego Llorente – 5.5

Made a great diving challenge to block a Luis Alberto pass who was breaking well in transition. Taken off, however, for Stephan El Shaarawy as Roma went in search for an equalizer.

Tammy Abraham – 5

Didn’t really make much of an impact when he was introduced.

Nemanja Matic – 6

Fairly composed display when he came on later on in the second half.

Stephan El Shaarawy – N/A

Ola Solbakken – N/A
