Roma Player Ratings vs Milan: Giallorossi Poor in Defeat

Check out our Roma player ratings vs Milan as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home on Friday evening. It was a poor display by the Giallorossi here who failed to create much throughout the match.

Jose Mourinho was back at the Olimpico after missing the first two matches due to suspension. However, he couldn’t inspire his side to get going in what was an extremely poor opening half in Rome for the hosts. Milan were in total control and deservedly went in at the break one up. You can find our full recap of the match here.

It didn’t take long for Milan to find their second after the break as Rafael Leao scored a magnificent volley to double the Rossonieri’s lead. A red card for Fikayo Tomori would give Roma a glimmer of hope of trying to get back into the match. It took awhile for the home side to pull a goal back but they finally did so through Leonardo Spinazzola. However, it wasn’t enough as Milan secured the 2-1 win. Below you can find our Roma player ratings vs Milan.

Roma Player Ratings vs Milan: (3-5-2)

Rui Patricio – 5

Conceded a penalty early on as his trailing leg caught Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Didn’t come close to stopping Olivier Giroud’s spot kick. Made a good save to deny Christian Pulisic in the first half but wasn’t at his best here.

Gianluca Mancini – 5

Couldn’t deal with the trickery of Leao nor the pace of Theo Hernandez. Struggled in this one.

Chris Smalling – 6

Key man at the heart of the defense for Roma but did not look the most composed in the opening phases. Caught out of position as he got dragged forward in the build-up to the Milan penalty. Improved as the game went on but not at his best.

Diego Llorente – 5.5

Failed to impose himself at the back and was caught out a couple of times in the first half.

Zeki Celik – 5

Won a couple of challenges but struggled a little up against Leao and the tandem of Hernandez and Leao was a threat all evening. Subbed off in the second period.

Bryan Cristante – 6

Improved later on as Roma had more of the ball but wasn’t one of Cristante’s best displays.

Leandro Paredes – 5.5

Failed to really impose himself on the game at the base of midfield but was fairly accurate in possession.

Houssem Aouar – N/A

Forced off after half an hour due to injury.

Nicola Zalewski – 6

Won a few tackles but wasn’t influential enough at wing-back. Won a number of his duels, however.

Stephan El Shaarawy – 4.5

Failed to make an impact up top. Benched in the second half.

Andrea Belotti – 6

Continued to start up top after his strong start to the season. Worked hard up top as ever and had an interesting battle with Tomori who would be sent off after an hour of play after another challenge on the Italian forward.

Substitutions

Lorenzo Pellegrini – 5

Didn’t do enough to impact the game when he came on.

Leonardo Spinazzola – 6

Pulled a goal back for Roma as his shot deflected off of Pierre Kalulu to make it 2-1.

Romelu Lukaku – 5

Had a record of five goals in eight against Milan prior to the match here. Didn’t influence the game when he was introduced.

Edoardo Bove – N/A

Riccardo Pagano – N/A
