Roma endured a difficult evening at the San Siro on Sunday evening but they rescued a point at the death thanks to goals from Roger Ibanez and Tammy Abraham who overturned a 2-0 Milan lead.
Roma failed to have a single shot on target in the first 45 minutes in what was a benign offensive display. They struggled to get anything going throughout the entire game in what was a poor performance for the most part but a thrilling end to the game saw them draw the scores level and head back to Rome with a point. So, here’s our Roma player ratings for their gripping tie against Milan.
Roma: (3-4-2-1)
Rui Patricio – 5
Perhaps could have done better to keep put Pierre Kalulu’s header but it was a difficult stop to make. Made a few saves throughout.
Gianluca Mancini – 5.5
Won a couple of tackles and made a few clearances but Rafael Leao was a constant threat towards his side of the pitch.
Chris Smalling – 5
Made a good defensive header after around 20 minutes following a decent ball into the box by Saelemaekers, intercepting Giroud’s header. Made a few clearances but not at his best here.
Roger Ibanez – 7
Competent start and dealt with attacks down his side well. Played a brilliant through ball into Abraham midway through the second half but the Milan defense dealt with it well. Put the visitors back into the match from out of nowhere with a superb header late on following a corner by Lorenzo Pellegrini.
Zeki Celik – 6
Booked inside the first ten for a late challenge and was tasked with a difficult challenge of dealing with Rafael Leao. Did okay for the most part.
Bryan Cristante – 5
Won a couple of challenges early on and helped the defense as Milan hit on the counter, especially up against Leao. Subbed midway through the second half for Nemanja Matic after failing to really impact the game here.
Lorenzo Pellegrini – 7
Struggled to impact the game as well as he could have here, failing to create much for the offense. However, still managed to provide the assist for the equalizer with a free kick from the right flank and did battle hard throughout.
Nicola Zalewski – 6
Did well at times down the left flank and threatened Ciprian Tatarusanu’s goal towards the end of the first half, cutting in on his right foot and arrowing an attempt just past the ‘keeper’s far post.
Paulo Dybala – 6
Little sloppy in possession, struggling up against the combative midfield of Ismael Bennacer and Sandro Tonali and was dispossessed a couple of times. Started to play a couple of nice passes towards the end of the first half but was absent for most of the second.
Nicolo Zaniolo – 3
Booked for a late sliding challenge on Theo Hernandez towards the end of first half and failed to impact the game going forward.
Tammy Abraham – 7
Struggled to get involved in the attack for the Giallorossi for the most part and didn’t do enough at closing down the Milan defense. Involved more towards the end of the game but didn’t make a big enough impact. Stole a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time following a free kick from the right flank.
Substitutions
Nemanja Matic – 5
Headed the ball on goal following the Pellegrini free kick in the lead up to the equalizer.
