Tammy Abraham’s injury-time goal wasn’t enough to secure all three points on Saturday evening as Roma were held to a 1-1 draw against Milan. Alexis Saelemaekers was able to snatch an even later equalizer to hold the Rossoneri in fourth-place in Serie A after a wonderful cross by Rafael Leao.
It was a dull opening period at the Stadio Olimpico to tell the truth as neither side managed to garner a single attempt on goal. Davide Calabria posed some questions for Leonardo Spinazzola and Roger Ibanez but couldn’t create anything meaningful as the opening period came to a close.
The second half didn’t improve much as Leao and Spinazzola offered the biggest hopes for an opener for Milan and Roma respectively but the ‘keepers were rarely tested. Finally, the game came to life after regulation time but Abraham’s opener would be cancelled out by Saelemaekers late on. So, here’s our Roma player ratings for their 1-1 stalemate at home to Milan.
Roma: (3-4-1-2)
Rui Patricio – 5
Rarely tested with the visitors registering just a single attempt on target all match. Couldn’t do much to keep out Saelemaekers’ equalizer.
Gianluca Mancini – 4.5
Struggled up against the pace and skill by Rafael Leao in the second half as the Portuguese winger found joy down the left flank.
Marash Kumbulla – N/A
Forced off in the first half due to injury.
Roger Ibanez – 5
Rightfully booked for a lunging challenge on Theo Hernandez in the second half. Lacking composure, unlike at the beginning of the campaign and continues to look a little shaky.
Zeki Celik – 6.5
Displayed some fine work down the right in the lead up to Abraham’s opener. Won a few challenges too but Leao was able to do well in the second half down his side of the pitch.
Bryan Cristante – 6
Pushed back deeper after the injury to Kumbulla, acting as the central centre-back in the three-man defense. Accurate in possession and made a couple of interceptions too.
Nemanja Matic – 6
Picked up a booking for a flying challenge in the first half. Fairly solid display in the middle of the park and won his duels well.
Leonardo Spinazzola – 6
Set up the first real half chance down the left flank for Roma but didn’t pose too much of a threat. A lot of Milan’s chances came down his side but was looking dangerous on the counter in the second half.
Lorenzo Pellegrini – 5.5
Perhaps the biggest threat in the first half but lacked any real composure. Created a couple of chances but never really got going here.
Andrea Belotti – 3
Didn’t impose himself on the game at all and deservedly was taken off at the break for Stephan El Shaarawy. Continues to struggle for the Giallorossi and still without a goal in Serie A this term.
Tammy Abraham – 6.5
Thought he had found a dramatic winner when he put Roma ahead with a composed finish late on. Failed to really impact the game elsewhere, however.

Substitutions
Edoardo Bove – 5
Won a few fouls for his team but was sloppy in possession. Put in a combative display as ever but didn’t make much impact going forward.
Stephan El Shaarawy – 5.5
Was streaming through the middle of the Milan backline on the counter but showed a poor first touch that squandered the chance. Lacked any real composure when introduced but was frequently involved.
