Roma Player Ratings vs Monza: Rui Patricio Key Despite Draw

Roma were unable to find victory away to Monza on Wednesday night in a 1-1 draw, with Rui Patricio proving pivotal. The Giallorossi were unable to return to winning ways after their stalemate with Milan last weekend, whilst Monza’s strong campaign continues under Raffaele Palladino.

The Biancorossi started the match brightly here and almost took the lead inside the first minute but Patricio would make a fine stop. Jose Mourinho’s side would respond, though, finding the opener after 24 minutes through El Shaarawy. The hosts did manage to continue threatening the Giallorossi defense, despite going a goal down, and they found an equalizer a few minutes before the break via defender Luca Caldirola.

The second half was pretty devoid of action for the most part but Carlos Augusto tested the goal soon after the break following some fine play by the hosts. There were opportunities for both sides late on to find a winner but both Patricio and Michele Di Gregorio held strong to earn a point for their respective sides. So, here’s our Roma player ratings for their 1-1 draw away to Monza.

Roma: (3-4-2-1)

Rui Patricio – 7

Forced into a making a solid save at his near post inside the first minute of play. Had to do something similar after the break as well to deny Carlos Augusto. Made a number of important saves here.

Gianluca Mancini – 5

Not afraid to attack down the right-hand side at times. The hosts did manage to put a lot of pressure down his side of the pitch, though, but he was good in the air.

Bryan Cristante – 6

Moved to the centre of the back three in light of Roma’s selection issues and was fairly untroubled. Won a couple of tackles and interceptions.

Roger Ibanez – 5.5

Looked a little shaky in defense and far from assured but wasn’t troubled too much as Monza largely threatened down the left. Threat from set-pieces, however.

Zeki Celik – 4

Poor back pass in the opening stages that led to a great chance for the hosts but grew into the match from there and looked decent going down the right flank. Sent off for a second yellow card deep into injury time.

Lorenzo Pellegrini – 5.5

Was a danger from set-pieces but still unable to do enough creatively for the Giallorossi offense.

Edoardo Bove – 6

Displayed his infectious work rate as usual and won a couple of duels in the middle early on.

Nicola Zalewski – 5.5

Fairly quiet tonight but was pretty solid when involved, completing 100% of his passes. Replaced by Leonardo Spinazzola in the second half.

Stephan El Shaarawy – 6

Put his side in front and looked sharp down the left at times. Failed to really impact the game in the second half.

Ola Solbakken – 4

Failed to make an impact and rightfully benched on the hour mark. Needs to make more of an impact.

Tammy Abraham – 5.5

Pressed high and did well to put pressure on Di Gregorio in the lead up to the opener. Struggled to impact the game offensively overall.

Substitutions

Leonardo Spinazzola – 6

Almost made an immediate impact when he found El Shaarawy with a delicious through ball. Looked dangerous at points.

Mady Camara – 5

Didn’t do much wrong when introduced in the second half.

Benjamin Tahirovic – N/A
