Roma Player Ratings vs Salernitana: Matic Rescues Point

Roma had to come from behind twice on Monday evening as they shared the points in a 2-2 draw against Salernitana thanks to a late equalizer from Nemanja Matic. Antonio Candreva took the lead for the visitors in the first half before half time changes from Jose Mourinho made a quick impact as Stephan El Shaarawy made it 1-1. Boulaye Dia put the Granata back in front not long after but it was Matic who rescued a point late on.

It was a quiet first half in Rome but the game opened up in the second period as both sides went in search of goals. So, here’s our Roma player ratings for their 2-2 draw against Salernitana.

Roma: (4-2-3-1)

Rui Patricio – 5

Couldn’t do much about the goals and had little else to do for the rest of the match.

Edoardo Bove – 6.5

Unnatural position over on the right-hand side of the defence but looked fairly solid for the most part. Helped support the attack at times too. Almost allowed the away side through on goal around the hour mark but Smalling managed to recover.

Chris Smalling – 7

First game back from injury, accurate in possession and looked pretty solid overall. Roma have missed him at the back.

Roger Ibanez – 4.5

Failed to keep track of Candreva in the build-up to the opener. Thought he had found his side an equalizer late in the first period but it was ruled out.

Nicola Zalewski – 6

Tracked back well early on and displayed some good defending at points. Seemed to move over towards the left-hand side as the game progressed but was pretty fluid throughout.

Mady Camara – 5

Lacked any real cutting edge or quality to his game but did fairly well in his duels.

Benjamin Tahirovic – 4

Game felt like it bypassed him and struggled to make much of an impact. Benched at half time.

Ola Solbakken – 4

Continues to struggle to impact the Roma offense. Replaced by Lorenzo Pellegrini at the break.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 4.5

Failed to pose too many questions throughout.

Stephan El Shaarawy – 7.5

Created a couple of chances in the first half but they were mainly from set-pieces. Managed to turn the ball home from close range to make it 1-1 and looked lively after the break.

Andrea Belotti – 4.5

Struggled to impact the game much and missed a glorious opportunity set up by Pellegrini in the second half.

Substitutions

Diego Llorente – 6

Solid when introduced and didn’t really put a foot wrong.

Lorenzo Pellegrini – 7

Made an instant impact as his free kick led to El Shaarawy’s equalizer and set-up a good chance for Belotti midway through the second period. His creativity continues to prove significant for Roma.

Nemanja Matic – 7

Made it 2-2 after finishing from close range with less than ten minutes to go.

Tammy Abraham – N/A

Bryan Cristante – N/A
