Roma Player Ratings vs Sampdoria: Giallorossi Move To Fourth

Roma secured a 3-0 win over Sampdoria in Sunday’s penultimate Serie A match to move back into the top four. Georginio Wijnaldum, Paulo Dybala and Stephan El Shaarawy all managed to get on the scoresheet after Jeison Murillo was sent off early on in the second half.

The hosts were thwarted throughout the first half, with goalkeeper Nicola Ravaglia making a number of saves. Roma were not clinical enough in the final third and the two sides went in at the break level. However, it was only a matter of time before the hosts’ pressure would result in a goal.

Wijnaldum starred here after scoring the opener, before also winning a penalty for his side in the lead up to Dybala’s penalty. El Shaarawy would top off the win late on in injury time. So, here’s out Roma player ratings for their 3-0 triumph over Sampdoria.

Roma: (4-2-3-1)

Rui Patricio – 6

Made a decent stop from a Gabbiadini free kick from the edge of the box but had little to do overall.

Nicola Zalewski – 6.5

Tested the ‘keeper with an effort from range and was never really challenged defensively down his side of the pitch. Solid display.

Chris Smalling – 7.5

Was a threat from set-pieces throughout and excelled in the air. Wasn’t troubled at the back.

Diego Llorente – 7

Had a header denied by Ravaglia in what was Roma’s best chance of the first half. Made a number of clearances and had an enjoyable first start in Serie A for the Giallorossi.

Leonardo Spinazzola – 7

Accurate in possession and posed a few questions down the left flank at times for Sampdoria.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 8

Was denied by the woodwork in the first half, nearly finding the opener. However, managed to put Roma in the lead in the second with a header. Also won the penalty after he was brought down by Ravaglia in the box. Starting to settle in well for Roma.

Nemanja Matic – 7.5

Supplied an assist with a good cross from the left flank for Wijnaldum. Controlled the tempo well and won his midfield battles. Strong showing from the Serbian.

Paulo Dybala – 7.5

Created a number of opportunities from corners but was limited in his influence from open play in the first half. Showed some flashes of his quality in the second and tucked his penalty away to double the lead.

Lorenzo Pellegrini – 7

Picked the ball up in some dangerous areas and created a few opportunities but couldn’t finish his chances.

Stephan El Shaarawy – 7.5

Had a couple shots on goal in the first half but they were easily dealt with by Ravaglia. Found the back of the net late on to seal all three points.

Tammy Abraham – 6

A little boisterous with a few challenges early on that resulted in a booking. Struggled to really impact the game going forward.
