Roma Plot Winter Raid On Everton For Artem Dovbyk Deputy

Serie A top-four hopefuls Roma have reportedly placed a watchful eye on struggling Everton center-forward Beto ahead of the January transfer window. According to Il Messaggero via Calciomercato, the Portuguese forward has emerged as a viable target for Giallorossi’s quest to find a decent fallback option for Artem Dovbyk.

Dovbyk joined Roma after a memorable La Liga season with Girona in the summer. Following a stuttering start in Serie A, the Ukrainian has hit the ground running, racking up three goals and one assist across his last four league appearances. He added another strike in a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao in the UEFA Europa League.

However, Roma must find a suitable alternative for the 27-year-old to avoid overreliance. Eldor Shomurodov has been Dovbyk’s deputy in the early stages of the 2024/25 campaign. But Ivan Juric seeks a more high-profile option to bolster Roma’s chances of securing a long-awaited Champions League qualification.

After the Friedkin Group acquired the ownership of Everton, Beto’s name popped up on Giallorossi’s list of targets. Before joining the Toffees in the summer of 2023, the Portuguese striker established himself as one of the most highly-rated strikers in Serie A with Udinese. Roma would give him another shot in Italy’s top flight in January.

Despite his struggles at Goodison Park, the 26-year-old could be a decent coup for Roma. With the new Everton owners ready to move the players between the clubs, Beto could soon return to Serie A. First, Juric’s side must offload Shomurodov, who spent last season on loan at Cagliari.
