Roma Plotting to Make Further Changes to Their Defense

Roma will soon formally announce the arrival of Evan Ndicka, but they won’t stop there as far as their defense is concerned. The club is looking for suitors for Roger Ibanez and is eyeing a pair of possible additions.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, director Tiago Pinto will spend some time in London. He’ll try to return with Gianluca Scamacca. He’ll also gauge the interest in the Brazilian center-back. The Giallorossi need to turn in profits by the end of June. His price tag is around €25M.

Roma would need to add new pieces to their defense if there was an exit. In addition, Marash Kumbulla will miss a few months due to a late ACL tear. He’s not sure to stay either. The Giallorossi have set their sights on Nico Elvedi. His contract runs out in 2024. Borussia Moenchengladbach might let him go for relatively cheap to avoid losing him for nothing.

Per Corriere dello Sport (via Calciomercato), La Lupa will try to bring Diego Llorente back from Leeds United, ideally on loan again. While they deemed an €18M option to buy too thigh, they appreciated his contribution. He featured 12 times and supplanted Ibanez before suffering a thigh strain. He won’t stay put following the Whites’ relegation.

Our Take on the Roma Defense

Despite his gaffes, Ibanez is one of their most profitable pieces. His sale could happen fast due to an upcoming Financial Fair Play deadline. They’ll have to substitute him, as they are still thin in the back, but they have already done a lot by luring Ndicka.
