Roma Poised to Beat Juventus to Ligue 1 Starlet

Juventus might have thought they’d steamroll to Khephren Thuram’s signature, but Roma are poised to spoil their plans. According to Calciomercato, Daniele De Rossi’s men are taking steps to beat their fierce Serie A rivals to the Nice starlet’s services.

Khephren joining his brother Marcus in Italy has become a distinct possibility. But while the early signs pointed to an imminent transfer to Juventus, Roma could beat the Turin side to the punch. De Rossi has earmarked the 23-year-old as a cost-effective addition to bolster his midfield ranks.

Thuram’s contract at Nice runs out next summer. Since he’s shown zero ambition to renew his deal, the Ligue 1 outfit will listen to offers for their prized possession. As low as €15 million could prove enough to price him out of the French Riviera, with Roma primed to capitalize on such an opportune prospect.

Roma feel they have the upper hand over Juventus. Their new sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi, previously worked at Nice and knows Thuram well. As the two are intimately familiar, the Giallorossi could quickly go at the head of the queue, but they must act swiftly.

Indeed, Juventus have devised a strategy to get Nice’s green light. They plan to offer Arkadisuz Milik as a makeweight in a deal, hoping it would sway this hot pursuit in their favor. However, Roma need Thuram more and could offer regular first-team football, something he might not have in Turin.
