Roma Prioritizing Fiorentina Breakout Star as Edin Dzeko Replacement

Roma are preparing to move on from Edin Dzeko and Dusan Vlahovic has quickly become the main target to substitute him, Gazzetta dello Sport reports. The two sides will square off later today, which will represent an opportunity for the front office to lay the groundwork for the summer move.

The Giallorossi already tried to sign him in 2020 as back-up and heir apparent for their veteran striker, however Fiorentina rebuffed every proposal. Their interest has only intensified over time since the youngster has broken out over the last two months, scoring 8 goals in 13 games.

He is under contract until 2023 and the Viola, who want to make him the linchpin of their future squad, are negotiating an extension to prevent him from leaving, but he has drawn considerable interest. The outlet indicates that they will ask for at least €30M to the teams that want to acquire him. However, his wages are low since he is making under €1M and other clubs will attempt to lure him away with significant raises.

Roma are said to be extremely keen on him because he is only 21 but has already shown his worth and is familiar with Serie A. Even though they are likely to make an addition up front, Borja Mayoral might stick around to remain an alternative. He is currently on loan from Real Madrid till 2022: they can buy him out this summer for €15M or the following one for €20M. His performances have been adequate as he has tallied 11 goals and 6 assists in 27 appearances.
