Roma Readying Bid For PSG Outcast Georignio Wijnaldum

Serie A giants Roma are reportedly assessing the prospect of landing out-of-favour Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georignio Wijnaldum. As per Calciomercato, the Giallorossi are readying a loan-with-an-option-to-buy offer for the former Liverpool captain.

The 31-year-old has failed to settle in Paris following his blockbuster arrival from Liverpool last summer. Wijnaldum was one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the Premier League during his time at Anfield. He moved to Ligue 1 in 2021, carrying a reputation as an elite midfielder.

However, nothing has gone the Dutchman’s way at the Parc des Princes. During his first season in France, Wijnaldum made just 18 Ligue 1 starts for PSG. Often forced to play understudy to Marco Verratti and Danilo Pereira, the experienced midfielder is contemplating his future in Paris.

Wijnaldum’s agents have offered his services to Milan and Roma as part of the player’s bid to reignite his career. But the Rossoneri have turned down the idea of signing the PSG misfit. The defending Serie A champions have opted to pursue other targets.

Milan’s withdrawal from the race has paved the way for Roma to swoop in and capture the ex-Newcastle United man. Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a new crafty midfielder to bolster his ranks. Nemanja Matic has already joined the Giallorossi. But the Portuguese manager wants more.

Roma are looking to take Wijnaldum to Serie A on a season-long loan with an option to buy for €20m. The Italians are ready to pay 50% of the Netherlands international’s €8m-a-year wages during his temporary stay in Rome.

PSG are reportedly willing to sanction a deal as they hope to complete the signing of Renato Sanches from Lille. The 24-year-old’s move to Paris would affect Wijnaldum’s already sparse playing time. Therefore, it is no surprise that Roma are enthusiastic about their chances of landing the senior Dutch star.
